I'm trying to get a USB laser barcode scanner to work on my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.8.2). And for some reasons, it does not work.
First, I bought a Taotronics TT-BS003. When I plug it in, it does make all the sounds it should do. It scans, but it does not write anything in TextEdit.
Looking at the System Information in the USB section, it shows:
WIT 122-UFS V2.00:
Product ID: 0x1010
Vendor ID: 0x05fe (CHIC TECHNOLOGY CORP)
Version: 0.01
Speed: Up to 1.5 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: WIT Electron Company
Location ID: 0x06200000 / 4
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 500
If I plug this scanner on a PC laptop with Windows 7, the reader scans out of the box and puts the code in Word. Back to the Mac, nothing other then the green light for a successful scan and the ok sound.
After talking to their support, it was recommended to return the scanner.
So I bought a “different” scanner from a different vendor. But after receiving that scanner, it seems to be the same scanner just with a different brand name.
Looking at the System Information in the USB section, it also shows:
WIT 122-UFS V2.00:
Product ID: 0x1010
Vendor ID: 0x05fe (CHIC TECHNOLOGY CORP)
Version: 0.01
Speed: Up to 1.5 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: WIT Electron Company
Location ID: 0x04100000 / 4

So how can I get these scanners to work on a Mac. Some people left feedback that they had it working out of the box. One person wrote:

Well, I scan a barcode but I can never reach the section where I can select 'ANSI (United States and others).
I’m just losing my mind over this. Any idea? And please, the manual is a joke. The scans do not help.

Software & Apps. What are 32-bit and 64-bit apps, and why do they matter? Posted on October 7th, 2019 by Kirk McElhearn You may have heard recent news about Apple’s warning to end users that the company intends to phase-out 32-bit apps running on macOS computers in 2019, with the release of macOS. Nov 15, 2019 Apple has been working with developers to transition their apps, and in 2018 Apple informed them that macOS Mojave would be the last version of macOS to run 32-bit apps. Apple's transition to 64-bit technology is now complete. Starting with macOS Catalina, 32-bit apps are no longer compatible with macOS. If you have a 32-bit app, please check. Does macos mojave require 64 bit apps windows 7. Jun 12, 2018 Don’t say you weren’t warned! Apple has been saying for some time that the days of 32-bit apps in macOS are numbered, as we mentioned in “ The Problem With Abandoned Apps ” (17 July 2017) and “ macOS 10.13.4 Warns Users about 32-Bit Apps ” (13 April 2018). Now Apple, in its 2018 State of the Union presentation, has confirmed that macOS 10.14 Mojave will be the last to support 32. Mac’s Rants & Raves Episode #295. There has been some confusion about the status of 32-bit apps in macOS 10.14 Mojave, which will be available soon (for free). As of macOS Mojave (10.14) beta 9, macOS Mojave DOES support 32 - bit applications. When opening these applications, you will see a dialog box with a similar message from High Sierra (see below) telling you that 'This app will not work with future versions of macOS' but after clicking 'Ok' the application will open.
